Janis has been an Occupational Therapist for over 30 years. She graduated from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA and spent her early career practicing in Southern California. She has a special interest in complex injury, thumb arthritis, and custom orthotics. The greatest joy in her Occupational Therapy experience is helping people return to the activities they love. Ms. Lewis began her focus in orthopedic hand therapy in 1987 and became a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) in 1993, working exclusively with patients who have had hand or upper extremity problems. She has been fortunate to learn while working closely with top hand surgeons treating postoperative hand and elbow injuries. Janis regularly participates in the annual America Society of Hand Therapy (ASHT) conferences and additional hand focused education programs. She believes that educating patients while addressing their questions, concerns and fears is the key to treatment that leads to superior outcomes. Janis relocated to Raleigh from Roanoke, VA and began working at Wake Orthopaedics is 2016. During her free time, she enjoys being outside, gardening, baking, helping at church, boating, and traveling west to play in the mountains that were once home.
